Before it was acceptable (or effectively, legal) to be gay, asking if someone was a Friend of Dorothy (FOD) was a way to identify oneself and others as gay in a safe and secretive way. Though it was originally used to identify gay men, it refers to all people under the LGBTQ umbrella, too.
The term stems from The Wizard of Oz and its lead, Judy Garland; a legendary icon and ally to LGBTQ folks even when it was unsafe or uncool to do so.
Fortunately, many of us don't have to rely on secretive euphemisms to be open anymore, but it's important to remember where we come from. And remembering in style? Even better.

We’re a sustainable, genderless clothing brand that celebrates collective values, ancestries and cultures, while simultaneously celebrating our unique, individual selves - both holding enormous importance in our lives.
In that sense, bubuleh is about escape and belonging all at once. We’re the halfway point between that feeling of warmth and security that comes with being around close friends and family in your comfort zone, and that risk and excitement that comes when you step out of that comfort zone.
We strive to create plotz-worthy fashion by putting older practices, ideas and aesthetics into conversation with newer ones. Though we derive our inspiration from Jewish heritage, culture, and Yiddish, we intentionally craft our clothing for everyone to wear.
